Finding Sun Tzu Challenge Winner 2010
For me, The Avalon Finding Sun Tzu Challenge was a stepping stone towards my dream. A career in consulting was always my aspiration but my exposure was very limited. The competition was the platform which not only gave me an opportunity to get a PPI from Avalon Consulting but also exposed me to the challenging world of consulting. For a B-School student, this is the closest one can get to experiencing the world of consulting.
I have participated in several other corporate as well as B-School competitions, but in my opinion, the Avalon Finding Sun Tzu Challenge goes much beyond just being a competition: It exposes you to strategy warfare and at the same time develops your ability to solve business problems.
From the very first round, we were made to think out of the box. Our ideas were nurtured through the further rounds. The mentorship provided by the senior management team of Avalon Consulting enabled us to refine our ideas further. I was also able to apply this logical process in future assignments.
The presentation was followed by a question and answers session with a panel of highly experienced judges, which gave a new perspective to the idea. The panel discussion between the judges helped me gain insight into how things work in the real world, how strategies are made and how they get translated into actions.
The social dinner which followed the event gave every participant a chance to interact with the consulting world. In my partner’s words “Being in a room full of consultants is like a dream come true for me… I have so many questions to ask, I don’t know where to start.”
From my experience, I must say that Avalon Consulting is a great place to work. In just few months, I have got immense exposure to several aspects of a consulting project. Out here, one gets to interact with the top management of the company and learn from their experience very often.
So, all those who are looking for a career in consulting, this contest will be a great place to start, not just in terms of PPI/internship but also in terms of learning and exposure to the consulting world.
