In an exclusive interview with Construction Times magazine, Abhimanyu Roy, Executive Director at Avalon Consulting, shared his perspective on the current state and future trends in India’s roads and highways sector.
Abhimanyu highlighted that the pace of highway construction in India has declined in 2022-23 compared to previous years, but there are still a significant number of road projects in progress. The increased budget allocation for the sector opens up opportunities for contractors, allowing for better quality projects, improved technologies, and increased employment. He also emphasized the importance of considering factors such as traffic volume, terrain, climate, and design standards when designing road/highway projects. Additionally, he discussed the need for changes in current practices, particularly in ensuring road safety.
In the interview, Abhimanyu mentioned the adoption of new-age technologies, such as drones, LiDAR, and geospatial technology, which have optimized planning and monitoring processes. Looking ahead, he pointed out the government’s focus on infrastructure development, presenting a positive outlook for the roads and highways market and creating more opportunities for contractors.
